Consultant Radiologist

LocationVarious Locations throughout Scotland
Category0000050552D/SHOW
Salary£78,304 to £105,570 per annum

DetailsScotland the 'most beautiful country in the world' (voted by Rough Guide 2017)

Opportunities for Consultant Radiologists

Various Locations throughout Scotland

Scotland has long enriched the field of medicine, both in terms of practice and research, and it has a particularly proud history in the field of radiology. The first radiology clinic in the world was opened at Glasgow Royal Infirmary in 1896 and the first full body MRI scanner was developed at Aberdeen University.

Radiology services in Scotland have advanced enormously in the last few years with significant investment in the National PACS system (Picture Archiving and Communication System) and in imaging equipment. Services are delivered predominantly through individual NHS Health Boards.

Within Scotland, the NHS enjoys a distinctly Scottish identity. Many international medical graduates have been drawn to Scotland by the career opportunities presented by working within the National Health Service (NHS). There are few people in Scotland today whose life has not been touched in some way by the NHS, which remains committed to delivering patient-centred care, free at the point of delivery. Through our ambitious Health and Social Care Delivery Plan we are actively designing a service fit for future needs, which is embodied in the triple-aim of Better Health, Better Care and Better Value.

NHS Scotland currently employs a workforce of over 162,500 staff across Acute, Primary Care, Community and Health and Social Care Partnerships with many of our staff working across our 274 hospitals, which include large teaching centres, district general hospitals and smaller community based hospitals. Approximately £11.9 billion (GBP) is spent on health and social care annually.

Serving a population of 5.3 million, equitable access to a robust quality and timely diagnostic imaging services is vital for clinicians involved in both emergency and elective care to ensure optimal outcomes for their patients.

Working in Scotland's NHS can be a very rewarding experience for Radiologists in terms of developing professional practice and sub-specialty interests. The demand for diagnostic radiology services across Scotland is increasing year-on-year and we now have a number of opportunities for Consultant Radiologists to join our radiology teams in many parts of Scotland.

We are seeking to recruit passionate, motivated and highly skilled Consultant Radiologists particularly with interests in Diagnostic, Breast, Interventional, Neuroradiology, Head and Neck and Musculoskeletal for vacancies in a number of attractive geographical locations throughout Scotland.

We can also offer opportunities to pursue academic and clinical teaching interests due to the close links with the five medical schools in Scotland: St Andrews, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Dundee and Glasgow.

In addition to being a great place to work, Scotland is also a great place to set-up home. As the most northerly of the four home nations of the United Kingdom, Scotland combines vibrant, dynamic and bustling cities with picture-postcard villages nestled amongst world class scenery: there's truly something for everyone packed within Scotland's borders. In addition, Scotland offers a comparatively high standard of living, affordable housing and good quality public schooling, along with great transport links to other parts of the UK, Europe and further afield.

Salaries for Consultant Radiologists in Scotland start from £78,304 to £105,570 based on a 40 hour contract. Additional payments can be achieved for extra sessions and on-call commitments. Other benefits include up to 41 days holiday per year, a contributory pension scheme and a generous relocation package to support your transition to Scotland, this includes expert guidance on the process of obtaining General Medical Council (GMC) registration and a UK immigration visa.

For all posts applicants must either have full GMC (General Medical Council) Registration or be eligible for registration this includes also eligibility to be on the GMC specialist register. For candidates trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or eligibility for specialist registration (CESR) or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from date of Interview.
