Consultant in Radiology

LocationDumfries & Galloway Royal Infimary
Salary£78,304 - £105,570
Closing Date3rd November 2017

DetailsNHS Dumfries and Galloway is currently looking for two Consultant Radiologists to join the Radiology team. Both posts are based at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary in Dumfries.

A new hospital is being built in a new location on the outskirts of Dumfries by the A75 at a cost of £200 million, and is scheduled to open on the 8th December 2017. The only project of its kind in UK at the moment, this truly is a unique, once in a lifetime opportunity to further develop your career in this state of the art facility, designed to meet the latest needs in medicine. The Radiology Department will be fully equipped with brand new, state of the art equipment including a Siemens Aera 1.5T MRI scanner, a Toshiba Aquilion Prime SP CT scanner and a Philips Allura Xper FD20 angio suite.

Dumfries and Galloway has a population of 150 000 and is currently served by a dedicated team of 4 permanent Radiologists (plus a long- term locum covering the breast clinics). As you would expect, working in a small team has obvious advantages and a few disadvantages, but we are very friendly, supportive and flexible when it comes to job plans and study/ annual leave. All sub-specialties are welcome, but MSK, Gynae and Paediatric are the most sought after at the moment.
We offer a 1 in 5 working day on call rota from 5 to 8pm, with the rest of the night covered by an external company. Weekend on call is optional and can be discussed with the successful applicant(s) at a later stage. Each Radiologist has his/ her own office.

You may never have heard of Dumfries and Galloway before, but you might be surprised when you come to see for yourself. An area of outstanding natural beauty with rolling hills, sandy beaches and dramatic cliffs, offering lots of sport, outdoor and wildlife activities, this must be one of Scotland’s best kept secrets. Generally untouched by tourism, the area is closer to major hubs than you would think. Glasgow and Edinburgh are reached in 1.5 and 2 hours, respectively, and London via Carlisle on a Virgin train in 4.5 hours. Property prices are really favourable in comparison to England and most of Scotland. The University town of Dumfries is home to several good schools and nurseries and we feel the position we are offering might be particularly interesting to a Radiologist with a young family, trying to balance work and family life.

Applicants must be fully registered with the General Medical Council, hold the Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists (or equivalent Radiological qualification), and be entered on the Specialist Register at the time of commencing the appointment.

Informal enquiries Dr Petr Hrobar, Consultant Radiologist (Tel: 01387 241626, email: petr.hrobar@nhs.net) or Valerie Grierson, Department Manager (Tel: 01387 241984, email: valerie.grierson@nhs.net).
