Due to successfully securing monies from the National Unscheduled Care Fund, we are seeking to recruit a fixed term, experienced and motivated trainer to work 12 hours per week. The role is to supervise, mentor and clinically support two Out of Hours Advanced Nurse Practitioners trainees in the Wigtownshire locality, based at The Galloway Community Hospital Primary Care Centre.
An Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) is an experienced and highly educated Registered Nurse who manages the complete clinical care for their patient, not solely any specific condition. Advanced practice is a level of practice, rather than a type or speciality of practice.
ANPs are educated at Masters Level in advanced practice and are assessed as competent in this level of practice. As a clinical leader they have the freedom and authority to act and accept the responsibility and accountability for those actions. This level of practice is characterised by high level autonomous decision making, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment including prescribing, of patients with complex multi-dimensional problems. Decisions are made using high level expert, knowledge and skills. This includes the authority to refer, admit and discharge within appropriate clinical areas.

Stranraer is a vibrant town in Southwest Scotland. It is positioned in the Rhins of Galloway, a popular tourist destination. It is the second largest town in Dumfries and Galloway, and was until recently the principal ferry port connecting Scotland and Ireland. Ferry connections with Ireland are now just a few miles to the North. The region has several towns of historical interest and draws tourists to its traditional rugged Scottish landscape. Stranraer has plenty of shops and eating places, excellent opportunities for outdoor sports, a leisure centre, golf course, a new marina, and is famous for its world class curling.
Lochinch Practice is situated in the Waverley Medical Centre, alongside two other GP practices. The Galloway Community Hospital is conveniently situated next door, and has a full A&E department, a palliative care unit and acute medical services. It is a well established practice, providing primary medical services to approximately 2900 patients. Boasting a relaxed atmosphere with good working relationships amongst staff as well as with the neighbouring practices, Lochinch Practice offers the potential for a salaried GP to develop skills in Dermatology, A&E and Anaesthetics at the neighbouring hospital by arrangement. We plan to have The practice has a full complement of experienced practice nursing and administrative support staff. From April 2017 the practice will become a 2C practice and will benefit from a more multi-disciplinary team approach, with ready access to in-house CPN’s and AHP’s. The practice operates a well established Doctor First triage system and has a flexible approach to trying new things. All local GP’s have the opportunity to work for the local ‘out of hours’ service but there is no obligation to do so.

Church Place Surgery are seeking a GP. Getting the right individual is important to us therefore we are flexible with regards to how this can be accomplished. All staff and GPs work on a part-time basis and we believe that achieving a work/life balance is important. Moffat, which is based in Dumfries and Galloway in south west Scotland, is the ideal place to realise that vision. With a one hour commute to both Glasgow and Edinburgh and approximately 50 minutes to Carlisle we are ideally placed.
